Well, today I was just looking around the net and I wanted to find out a little bit about how to make candy. I also wanted to see if their were any books out their that could help me.

So, I headed over to amazon to see what books were available. It is no surprise that amazon has a large selection of books on this subject. Well, I wanted to share a few of these books.

I found two books on how to make Bonbons. They kind of caught my eye. Let take a look at them.

Candies and Bonbons and How to Make Them

AND

Candies and Bonbons and How to Make Them!

Recipies for Taffies, Candies, Bonbons, and Fudges in this book!

Both seem to have a good explanation of the subject of Bonbons.

Lets get away from Bonbon for a minute. I really was not looking for that kind of information. I waned to find out more of how to make basic candy. Then I found this book.

How To Make Candy

I have not read this book yet but it looked interesting.

Now their was one book that 3 people did not like. It was Nancy Shipman’s Nancys Candy Cookbook: How to Make Candy at Home the Easy Way, Second Edition.

Most describe the book as a basic book, probably the best choice for me, that had recipes that could be picked up anywhere on the net. Another complaint said the it was printed on computer paper and was not that professional.

I don’t know, but in any case, it is probably a very good beginners book.

Learn how to easily make salt water taffy from scratch. Very simple recipe you and your family will enjoy.

Salt water Taffy Recipe

2 Cups of sugar

1 Cups of light corn syrup

2 Tablespoons of butter or margarine

1/4 t. oil of your favourite flavouring.

7 drops of food coloring

1 Cup water

1 1/2 tablespoons of salt

Butter and or grease the sides of a 2 quart saucepan and add sugar, corn syrup, 1 cup of water and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt.

Cook the recipe on a medium level of heat and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves. Continue cooking until the oven reaches 275° F, without stirring. The mixture should should begin to lightly.

Remove the taffy from the heat and stir it up in butter or margarine. Once stirred add flavoring and food colouring to the mix. Pour into a greased cake pan and let it cool down for 30 or so minutes. When it is cool enough to handle butter your hands and pull the taffy until it becomes too difficult to pull anymore.

Cut the salt water taffy into four pieces. Then pull each piece of taffy into a long string of about 1/2 inches thick. Butter up a pair of scissors and cut small bite-sized pieces and wrap it with candy wrapping.

This recipe can make you about 1 1/2 pounds of yummy salt water taffy.

Once done you will have yourself a very delicious and satisfying snack. Salt water taffy is a summer favourite so it is sure to be one that you and your kids would be able to enjoy.

-Graduation: Girl Grad, Boy Grad, Cap and Diploma, Congratulations Lollipop

-Halloween: Jack-o-lantern, Frankenstein, Ghost, Moon, Spider, Skeleton, Black Cat, Witch

-Anniversary Candy Molds: Congratulations Bar, Congratulations Lollipop

-Christmas: Christmas Tree, Santa, Poinsettia, Snowman, Toy Soldier, Reindeer, Star

-New Baby: Rattle, Baby Feet, It’s a Girl, It’s a Boy, Baby Bottle, Diapers, Stork

<img class="alignleft" style="float: left;" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DCFT8F0PL._SL75_.jpg" alt="B.S.
This is a first quality, tough plastic mold. It is durable and reusable. It is not machine washable. Suitable for chocolate and soap making as well as plaster and concrete crafting. FDA approved.

Flop Eared Bunny Pretzel Candy Molds

3 cavity mold, you will need 3/4 ounce of chocolate for each, piece will use a 2 X 10″ cello or poly bag to wrap.
This is a chocolate mold, will not withstand high heat and is not dishwasher safe. For general care: wash and rinse in warm not hot water

And we are just barely scratching the surface when it comes to the number of different shapes and designs that candy molds are available in. Plus, with the different colors of ingredients that can be used to make molded candies there is no limit to the ways your candy can be designed and personalized.

You can also use candy molds for making many other specialties other than just making candy. Candy molds are great for making ice cubes or sugar cubes for a special event. They are great for making cream cheese treats, rice crispie treats, holiday mints or jello jigglers for special occasions. Some people even use candy molds to make decorations out of plaster. As you can see the only limit is your imagination when it comes to using candy molds.

TRADITIONAL SQUARE All Occasions Candy Mold Chocolate

This is a first quality, tough plastic mold. It is durable and reusable. It is not machine washable. Suitable for chocolate and soap making as well as plaster and concrete crafting. FDA approved.

Various candy molds are designed for different uses and they are made from different materials depending on that use. The materials used are typically plastic, rubber or metal. Many candy molds are designed to make molded chocolates so they don’t have to be very heat resistant; while others are designed for making hard candy and suckers, so they are made of material that can withstand high heat so that the hot candy can be poured right into the mold.

Now, lets say you want to make candy for a wedding or to celebrate your child’s sports team. By using different colored dipping chocolate or other different candy making ingredients you can come up with candies personalized to the color schemes of the wedding or the sporting teams uniforms.

Other good uses for the molds that tolerate heat is using them to make cookies or little cakes or even for making your own decorative soaps. The list goes on and on as to the ways in which candy molds can be used to make treats and decoration to personalize a special event.

Here are just a few more ideas for using candy molds: Gum Paste, Cement, Modeling Clays, Candles, Fondant, Sidewalk Chalk, Cinnamon, Play dough, etc. When it comes to working with candy molds you can let your imagination wander.
